One of my wife’s and I favorite places to explore is Cape May and its culinary cuisine. With so many places that offer fine dining and have such great reputations, this Cape May County, Jersey shore resort located at the southern tip of New Jersey, or exit 0 on the Parkway, is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the state.
We recently were walking down the Washington Street Mall and came across a new eating establishment, Tisha’s. It was lunch time so we checked out the menu and were pleased to see a different variety of offerings with a little twist to some. While looking at the menu, I learned that Tisha’s was originally started in Wildwood New Jersey, just north up the coast by the current owners mother. In 1995, Paul and his wife Jennifer opened Tisha’s fine dining at the Solarium building on the beach. They recently relocated to the center of the Washington Street Mall, and we are glad they did.
The lunch menu offered small plates of Calamari with roated peppers, hot peppers capers and honey mustard, Mussels and Clams, and Broccoli Rabe. There are also soups and salads that caught the taste buds and all salads could add grilled chicken or shrimp. The entreees consisted of sandwiches and burgers and the choices were mouth watering.
My wife choose the Big Gun Panini, which had grilled chicken with roasted peppers, fresh spinach, gorgonzola cheese and drizzled balsamic glaze. Since that sounded good to me also, we decided to share that and for my choice I had an Italian Burger, which came with roasted peppers, spinach, goat cheese, and drizzled balsamic reduction. We ordered the specialty salad, which had baby greens, candied pecans, goat cheese, craisins, and a rasberry balsamic vinaigrette. With these three choices, we decided to share them all.
The salad came out first and it was plentiful for two of us to share and the ingredients were substantial. Everything was extremely fresh and the greens had a variety which brought out the flavors of everything. We both thouroughly enjoyed this first course. When our sandwiches arrived, we both took a bite and moaned with the exciting taste. The burger with the goat cheese, roasted peppers, and balsamic glaze could have been the best burger I have ever had. I would never had thought the combination of the toppings could go so well with a burger, but it was fantastic. The pannini was great also, but after tasting the burger, I really did not want to share. But I did. We both had a wonderful lunch, and we were able to sit outside and enjoy the walkers and shoppers. The weather was perfect and it became a perfect day.
Tisha’s also serves dinners and the price for lunch with iced teas came to $37.00 and worth every penny. You can find Tisha’s at 322 Washington Street in Cape May. If and when you are in Cape May, Tisha’s should be a must eat!!!

Ever wonder what it feels like being suspended about 450 feet about the water and taking in all the views that Cape May County and Atlantic County has to offer? You can find out by strapping yourself in a parasail and taking off. It is truly a feeling like no other. Parasailing has become very popular at the Jersey Shore in past years because it is loved by the young and old alike. Many families share this experience together because it takes little effort and only some bravery to soar high above the water. But the rewards are extreme. You can find parasailing up and down the beach resorts all along the Jersey Shore. From Cape May and Wildwood to Beach Haven and Barnaget Bay, tourist and locals are all enjoying the pleasure of soaring above the waters and taking in the views of the coast. Prices vary, but the average price ranges from $70 to $90 per session and the length of time you soar is usually about 15 minutes. For adventure and family fun, try parasailing. You’ll be glad you did it.

This adult only pool is surrounded by lush tropical gardens and cabannas, lounge chairs and everything you would find in a tropical setting. Opened twelve months per year, this domed covered oasis is a balmy tropical temperature every day, regardless of the weather outside. Tropical drinks are served from the bar, and music, if not live bands or DJ’s are piped in from many of the surrounding speakers.

Sandy Hook, New Jersey, is the perfect destination for a week’s stay during a vacation, and there’s plenty to do with your time here. Especially on the beach.

The beach is free if you take the ferry, walk or bike into town. But if you arrive by car, there’s a $10 fee to park. During the summer, the lots are filled by 10:00 a.m., so be sure to arrive early. There are six separate beaches here, each with its own facilities and lifeguards. If you like New York, check out North Beach, which offers spectacular views of the city’s harbor on a clear day. You can even see the Verrazano Bridge and the Brooklyn waterfront (all the way east to Jones Beach, in Long Island) from this spot.

For a non-family-friendly beach experience, explore the secluded Gunnison Beach. It’s the largest nude beach in the Northeast. If you’re worried about wandering in unaware, fear not. The nude beach is clearly marked and set off from the main stream of Sandy Hook activity—so you’ll only find it if you’re looking for it!

Hiking and biking makes for a great day trip. Hiking trails begin at both ends and span the length of the peninsula, with paths that take you through everything from sand dunes to salt marshes. There is also a paved, multi-use path that is ideal for rollerbladers and bicyclists, as well as hikers. This makes for a less messy trip.

Spend a day exploring the history here, because there’s a lot to see. The Fort Hancock Museum teaches visitors about Sandy Hook’s key role in the defense of New York Harbor for more than 200 years, and the Sandy Hook Lighthouse, which is the oldest surviving lighthouse in the U.S. and has stood tall since 1764!, is open to the public as well. You can climb the lighthouse stairs and marvel at the views, which on a clear day include Manhattan! You’ll also want to check out the Twin Lights National Landmark, which preserves the memory of an 1828 lighthouse that was key to helping ships safely navigate the waters off of Sandy Hook. The existing stone lighthouse was built in 1862 and in 1898, and it became America’s first electronically-powered lighthouse. Admission to the historical landmark is free and guided tours are available with advanced reservations, so it’s a good fun activity to participate in if you don’t want to spend a lot of money.

Even if you’re not an expert bird-watcher, Sandy Hook will make you want to take up the hobby, at least for the day. The National Audubon Society’s New Jersey chapter runs the Sandy Hook Bird Observatory here, which is located in the northeast corner of the peninsula (near the park’s headquarters and the Fort Hancock Museum. The exhibits and a bookstore guides will give a good sense of what species to look for. The best birding locations include Plum Island and Spermaceti Cove which are both near Sandy Hook’s southern entrance.

It’s all about the outdoors here, so spend a day at the 736-acre Hartshorne Woods Park. The park is a hotspot for bicyclists and boasts 16 miles of biking and hiking trails that offer marvelous views of the bay and the town. Don’t have a bike? You can rent them from Sandy Hook Cottage Bike Rentals.

A trip here isn’t complete without seeing the Mount Mitchill Scenic Overlook, which is home to some of the best views in town. On site, The September 11th Memorial begins with a “timeline walkway” which recaps the events in chronological order, culminating in a sweeping view towards lower Manhattan. Pay tribute to the nearly 150 Monmouth County residents who died in the attacks on the World Trade Center. There’s also another September 11th Memorial at the town’s Veteran’s Park. Two 13-foot marble statues honor the local victims.

With so much to do in this lively Jersey Shore town, it’s no wonder that people flock to Seaside Heights, New Jersey, throughout the year.

Spend a day on the world-famous boardwalk and enjoy the sights, sounds and food. Get anything from Midway, which offers great lemonade and steak sandwiches. There are funnel cakes and cheese balls around the area, plus plenty of cute souvenir shops to explore. The old indoor carousel is a landmark as are the many rides along the boards.

Fishing makes a great day trip because you’ve got the ocean and the Barnegat Bay to choose from. Anglers can choose from surf casting, light tackle bay fishing and deep sea fishing. Try your luck fishing off the Casino Fishing Pier, where there is seasonal access but you can get everything from Striped Bass to Fluke. Crabbing is also a great way to spend a relaxing day here. Blue crabs can be found in the Barnegat Bay all along the shore. The docks just south of the bridge are a great place to start. There are plenty of tackle stores in the area as well. Most offer information including the latest hot spots. Stop by The New Dolphin or Betty and Nick’s both on Rt. 35 in Seaside Park.

A day at Island Beach State Park is well worth the fee it costs to get in. Island Beach State Park is a narrow barrier island stretching for 10 miles between the Atlantic Ocean and the Barnegat Bay. Island Beach is one of New Jersey’s last significant remnants of a barrier island ecosystem that once existed along much of the coast and is also one of the few remaining undeveloped barrier beaches on the north Atlantic coast. Here you can enjoy unspoiled beaches and a variety of other activities such as kayaking and hiking. There are plenty of trails and places to fish, surf, scuba dive, and bicycle. It’s definitely going to be a full day here!

With so much water around, take advantage of it with a day excursion. You can rent kayaks and jet skis in town, in addition to other water sport equipment. It’s well worth it due to the spectacular views and variety of water.

Just north of Seaside Heights is a small town on the Barnegat Peninsula known as Lavallette. It’s a great place to stop for an afternoon of shopping and dining, as there are plenty of restaurants—hit the Crab’s Claw Inn for a superior seafood dinner—and fun shops to stop in. Top off the day with delicious Jersey Shore ice cream.
