One of my wife’s and I favorite places to explore is Cape May and its culinary cuisine. With so many places that offer fine dining and have such great reputations, this Cape May County, Jersey shore resort located at the southern tip of New Jersey, or exit 0 on the Parkway, is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the state.
We recently were walking down the Washington Street Mall and came across a new eating establishment, Tisha’s. It was lunch time so we checked out the menu and were pleased to see a different variety of offerings with a little twist to some. While looking at the menu, I learned that Tisha’s was originally started in Wildwood New Jersey, just north up the coast by the current owners mother. In 1995, Paul and his wife Jennifer opened Tisha’s fine dining at the Solarium building on the beach. They recently relocated to the center of the Washington Street Mall, and we are glad they did.
The lunch menu offered small plates of Calamari with roated peppers, hot peppers capers and honey mustard, Mussels and Clams, and Broccoli Rabe. There are also soups and salads that caught the taste buds and all salads could add grilled chicken or shrimp. The entreees consisted of sandwiches and burgers and the choices were mouth watering.
My wife choose the Big Gun Panini, which had grilled chicken with roasted peppers, fresh spinach, gorgonzola cheese and drizzled balsamic glaze. Since that sounded good to me also, we decided to share that and for my choice I had an Italian Burger, which came with roasted peppers, spinach, goat cheese, and drizzled balsamic reduction. We ordered the specialty salad, which had baby greens, candied pecans, goat cheese, craisins, and a rasberry balsamic vinaigrette. With these three choices, we decided to share them all.
The salad came out first and it was plentiful for two of us to share and the ingredients were substantial. Everything was extremely fresh and the greens had a variety which brought out the flavors of everything. We both thouroughly enjoyed this first course. When our sandwiches arrived, we both took a bite and moaned with the exciting taste. The burger with the goat cheese, roasted peppers, and balsamic glaze could have been the best burger I have ever had. I would never had thought the combination of the toppings could go so well with a burger, but it was fantastic. The pannini was great also, but after tasting the burger, I really did not want to share. But I did. We both had a wonderful lunch, and we were able to sit outside and enjoy the walkers and shoppers. The weather was perfect and it became a perfect day.
Tisha’s also serves dinners and the price for lunch with iced teas came to $37.00 and worth every penny. You can find Tisha’s at 322 Washington Street in Cape May. If and when you are in Cape May, Tisha’s should be a must eat!!!

There are so many great restaurants at the Jersey Shore. Atlantic County, New Jersey has hundreds if not thousands of wonderful dining establishments. In Somers Point, New Jersey, which is located on the west side of the Inlet near Ocean City, you will find many well established dining experiences and they have a new one in town.
800 Bay is a new dining experience located on the water on the infamous Bay Avenue. The name is the address and the dining and atmosphere is wonderful. My wife and I were driving to one of our favorite waterfront eateries in Somers Point when we went by 800 Bay and decided to turn around and give it a try. The building is very open and even though it was a warm summer day, we decided to eat out on the covered deck so we could take in the views. With the Inlet in front of us and Ocean City in a distance, the warm summer breeze along with the fans keep us cool and comfortable.
We were eating lunch today and even though the menu was limited, we felt the selections were ample. With a little bit of everything offered, from salads and soups, sandwiches that included burgers, steak, chicken, fish, and crab sliders, we had a tough decision to make. My wife decided to start with the coconut shrimp with a strawberry jalapeno glaze and pineapple salsa, and have a salad with goat cheese, apples, proscuitto, and an apple vinegrette. I could not decide on whether I wanted the crab sliders or the steak sandwich. I went with the opened face steak sandwich with oinion strings, and a horseradish sauce.
We shared the coconut shrimp and it was delicious. The shrimp were very large and the sauce and salsa made the taste come out of the shrimp. My wifes salad was excellent and although it was a salad, she felt it to be very filling and more than just your average salad. My steak sandwich was prepared medium and came out perfect. It was tender and the onion strings and horseradish sauce gave it a fabulous taste. We dinned in a quiet, peaceful atmosphere as we watched the water and the boats passing by.
Our waiter informed us that there is nightly entertainment, usually a one or two piece band, and occasionally a singer plays the piano inside and entertains the dining guests. For those of you who know Bubba Mac, he sometimes plays to a weekend crowd.
We looked at the dinner menu and again, there were about fifteen items on the menu and they all looked great. 800 Bay Restaurant and Bar was a wonderful find for my wife and I and we will definately be back.
Welcome to Historic Victorian Cape May. This is our nations oldest seaside resort, where the feeling of years past is everywhere form the ginger bread of the Pink House to the coastline with its reflections of the lovely ladies of years gone by. Everything about Cape May makes you want to visit here again and again.

Cape May has some of the finest restaurants on the east coast, many of which have won national awards. The types of cuisine are veered from the rich flavors of northern Italy to delicacies fresh from the sea.

While on the island of sights and shells, there are many things to do, one of our finest attractions is the beach. In Cape May you can stroll along the promenade or bask on the beautiful beaches. The sights and colors of the victorian era can be seen inside and out by trolley, walking tours or horse and buggy. Tours are easy to find and run frequently. Cape May lighthouse and the cement sunken ship are also fun attractions to see.

Learn about our rich maritime history and enjoy an unparalleled view of the Cape with a climb to the top of the 1859 Cape May Lighthouse.

This oldest of the seashore resorts makes a great vacation spot year round. The spring is beautiful with its Tulips in bloom all over the island. The fall of the year brings us Victorian Week with many historical and informative sessions and tours.

Visit the 1879 Emlen Physick Estate, Cape May’s only Victorian house museum, for a glimpse into life as it was lived more than 100 years ago.

Christmas in Cape May is a sight to be seen, The Bed and breakfasts’ as well as the entire city celebrates Christmas just as the victorians did with millions of lights, beautiful trees and garlands inside and out. Street carolers fill the air with the sounds of Christmas.

Unclear and the exact date Cape May City was established, an act by the New Jersey Assembly in 1697 calls for a road between Cape May and Burlington.

Cape May referred to anything on the Cape. In 1801 ads in the Philadelphia Daily Auroua advertising Cape Island as a seaside resort brought the wealthy from Pennsylvania and Central New Jersey. The Atlantic Hotel placed ads and ran daily trips from 1806-1811. The town really took off as a Seashore Resort after the arrival of steam powered boats, because then trips up and down the Delaware no longer had to be dependent on the tide.

On March 8, 1848, Cape Island was incorporated as the borough of Cape May. Cape May City was a thriving seaside community, attracting many politicians and many wealthy plantation owners. Huge hotels were built, some accommodating as many as 2,000 guests. There were gambling casinos and horse racing on the beach. In 1850, Sen. Abraham Lincoln and family vacationed there.

If you are planning a trip to the Jersey Shore, and Atlantic City is your choice of all the wonderful places to stay, you will have to plan well to get in everything you will want to see. With the casinos, beaches, shopping and dining, just to mention a few options, Atlantic City has it all.

When you arrive in Atlantic City, you will want to get checked into your room and start to take everything in. With all the glitz and glamour, you may want to just walk around and take in everything. You could spend several hours just meandering around planning your strategy to your visit. If you cannot control yourself, you may want to hit the slots or tables while taking everything in.

On your first evening you should indulge yourself on a wonderful meal from any of the hundreds of dining establishments. Depending on your budget, you can go simple with any of the themed restaurants such as Johnny Angels, or Rainforest Café, or the Hard Rock Café, to just name a few. If you want fine dining, you’ve come to the right place. With Bobby Flay’s New Restaurant, or Mortons, or Phillips, again just to name a few, you will find dining for every taste. Every major Casino offers at least one fine dining establishment and sometimes even more.

Your second day should be spent on the beach. Enjoy a relaxing day reading a book, or have fun and sun in the Atlantic Ocean. After a day at the beach, relax and get ready for another evening of dining delight. After dinner you may want to listen to a band, or try your luck at the slots.

Day three could be spent as a Spa Day or Golf Day, depending on your taste. You may want to split up and enjoy both. Atlantic City offers the best in relaxing Spa’s and there are over one hundred golf courses in the Atlantic County and Cape May County area.

Your fourth day should be split between the beach and gambling. Enjoy half of the day on the beach and the other trying your luck at the slots and tables.

Day five you should consider shopping. Atlantic City has become a shopping Mecca. With shops at every Resort, and the Pier, located at Caesars, The Quarter at the Tropicana, and The Walk, with every Outlet Shop imaginable, you can spend your whole day looking for treasures.

As your vacation starts to wind down, day six should be spent doing whatever you enjoyed the most since arriving and need one last day doing it. Whether it be the beach, or the gambling, shopping, or eating your way down the boardwalk, you should do whatever gives you the most enjoyment in this glamorous town.

Day seven is spent packing and traveling back home. But you won’t go home empty. You will feel the delight of a fantastic vacation and all the memories you can imagine.

Sea Isle City, one of the most popular tourist destinations at the Jersey Shore, not only offers a resort atmosphere with the beach, but also has a fantastic nightlife for everyone. If you are amongst the young and looking for excitement and great bands to dance the night away, or the older generation that enjoys music from the 50’s, 60’s or 70’s, you will be able to find something to enjoy.

The three main bars/clubs in Sea Isle are the Springfield Inn, located at 43rd Street and Pleasure Ave., The OceanDrive (aka The O.D.), on the corner of Landis Ave. and 40th Streets, and LaCosta, on the corner of JFK Blvd. and Landis Ave. All three have their own unique entertainment.

The Springfield Inn, with it’s outside bar called the Carousel, has a tropical theme and offers an ocean view while sipping your favorite drink and listening to a band play in the afternoon from 4:00PM until 8:00. Inside the party starts on weekends when they do a jam session from 4:00-8:00 where you will find a mixed age group listening to the music of the 50’s through 90’s. Many of the “Older generation” enjoy this jam session because of the timing and being able to have a great time and be home at a reasonable hour. The Springfield starts hopping with its nightly entertainment at about 9:00pm, but the place usually gets packed with the young and beautiful around 11:00pm when everyone starts his or her night. Various bands play throughout the summer and this bar is one that is a must to see.

The O.D. is a happening place in Sea Isle with its “No Shower Happy Hour”, which invites everyone to come from the beach to the bar. Many jam sessions during the week offers special priced happy hour on favorite beers and mixed drinks. Bands play a variety of music earlier in the evening, which again will bring out the young at heart. The Ocean Drive starts hopping in the later hours with bands and drink specials that bring out everyone.

LaCosta, over the past years decided to take an outdoor pool and fill it in to make a tropical outside bar, which has paid off tremendously. Early evening you will find different bands playing while locals and visitors from near and far enjoy the cool evening breeze, while listening to their favorite tunes by bands from around the area. Special prices on drinks allow those who want an early evening of entertainment to sit back relax and enjoy. On weekends and during the week, many bands will entertain the youth of the town with classic songs everyone can get into, while LaCosta has drink specials to entice all.

Other bars for nightlife in Sea Isle include Kixx McNaulty’s, located at 63rd Street in Sea Isle who also has happy hour prices and live entertainment, Shenanigans, O’Donnell’s Pour House, The Dead Dog Saloon, Braca’s, and The Lobster Loft. With so many to choose from, you will never have to leave Sea Isle City for your entertainment needs!
