3 Top Dives to Dine at the South Jersey Shore
The South Jersey Shore has a wide variety of fine dining restaurants with the Cuisine ranging from A to Z, but what most visitors want is “Seafood”. With this area being known for its fresh fish, scallops, shrimp, clams, crabs, and mussels, there are many places to find your favorites. I’ve been able to visit most establishments along the South Jersey Shore, and I’m going to share my three favorite Dive establishments. To clarify, when I call it a “Dive”, I’m talking about places with plastic utensils, rolls of paper towels, and plenty of good eating.
Sandy Hook Restaurants
Restaurants in Sandy Hook include eateries in the boroughs of Highlands, Atlantic Highlands and Sea Bright. Seafood, while rampant here—and certainly delicious—isn’t the only thing on the menu. German, Italian, French, Mexican, New Orleans Creole, Asian Fusion, Japanese, and American fare are served. Also, many residents are used to fine dining in Manhattan due to its close proximity, so many of them expect superior dining in their area.
The Bay Avenue Trattoria, located in Highlands, is similar to the trattorias of Italy with its quaint setting and colorful accents. With a blend of Italian and American cuisine, this restaurant serves up lunch, dinner and dessert—and also includes complete take-out and catering. Prices are reasonable here and the food feels like it came straight over off the boat.
Seaside Heights Restaurants
Known as the Jersey Shore’s hotspot for dazzling nightlife and one of New Jersey’s quintessential boardwalk locations, Seaside Heights is also home to some wonderful restaurants. Located just over the Barnegat Bay, here are some eateries to add to your list of must-trys.
For great Italian food, Gabriella’s is the place to be although only in the summer. Located on Route 35 North and 1st Avenue, this restaurant offers the usual meals—all cooked to perfection. Experience the tastes of Italy with dishes such as Chicken Savoy and Eggplant Rollentini. Imported pastas are served wth everything from garlic and butter to homemade alfredo sauce. Prices are affordable and this is an ideal restaurant to enjoy a casual family meal.
Belmar NJ Restaurants
This popular Jersey Shore resort town is home to great beaches, fun people—and fabulous restaurants. There are everything from charming cafes, to pubs and elegant restaurants here. Serving up everything from American fare to Latin food, Belmar has something for anyone who gets hungry.
Asbury Park NJ Restaurants
For a truly enchanted experience, you’ve got to check out Moonstruck. This place has the appearance of home with three stunning floors overlooking the lake on Lake Avenue. The bar is sleek and seductive, with signature cocktail rounding out the drink menu—plus great wines and beers. After your meal enjoy special desserts that are made on the premesis. With al fresco dining on the wrap-around porch, this is the place to go for special occasions or upscale dinners. Year round, it offers stunning beauty and exceptional fare.
Top Five Cape May Restaurants
While visiting Cape May, New Jersey you will want to try as many of the wonderful restaurants as you can. With so many top rated eating establishments in Cape May, you may not have enough time to try them all. So I’m going to list my top five restaurants you must try while visiting this Victorian town. These are not in any significant order, and they vary in type of food, pricing, etc.
1. Washington Inn
The Washington Inn, located on Washington Street and only a few blocks from the center of town offers fabulous entrees you will savor time after time. Built in 1840, this property offers five distinct rooms from summer patio dining to cozy fireplace setting for those chilled evening. Prices for entrees range from mid twenties to low thirties, but worth every penny.
