Airfest: Cape May County Annual Event-Labor Day Weekend

Cape May County New Jersey has it’s beaches and sun and fun resorts, but it also offers Historic World War II Bombers that allows visitors to experience “living history”. Labor Day Weekend is that time and place for this South Jersey Airfest, which takes place at the Naval Air Station Wildwood Avaiation Museum at the Cape May Airport.
This museum boasts a collection of 26 aircraft spanning the period from early in WWII, with the Boeing Stearman, to the jet powered F-14 Tomcat used in Iraq.

On Labor Day Weekend famous WWII aircraft visits Cape May County and Historic Hanger #1 for four days. The tour features the P-51 Mustang, B-17 Flying Fortress and B-24 Liberator. The public will be given a once in a lifetime opportunity to enjoy and even take flight in these historic treasures. The main goal of the AirFest is to educate visitors about national history and to honor our veterans.

Cape May New Jersey: Victorian Week at the Jersey Shore

With all that Cape May has to offer, the fall and Victorian Week is one of the most anticipated events of the year in this Cape May County historical town. Not only do you get the charm and quaintness of America’s first seashore resort, you get to experience one of the many daily events that take place in this Jersey Shore City at the southern most point. If you enjoy the Victorian flare, you may want to enjoy one of the many house tours or perhaps a Bed & Breakfast tour that is offered. If food is to your liking, Victorian Week offers many different food tasting events including a Dine-Around tour that is a five course feast where each course is served in one of Cape May’s premier restaurants. You may want to participate in a “Murder Mystery Dinner”, or be a judge in the Chocolate Championship Tour & Tasting where you visit each competitors property and sample their signature chocolate desserts and then vote for your favorite. You can then receive all the chocolate recipe’s via E-mail just for participating.

Ever wonder what it feels like being suspended about 450 feet about the water and taking in all the views that Cape May County and Atlantic County has to offer? You can find out by strapping yourself in a parasail and taking off. It is truly a feeling like no other. Parasailing has become very popular at the Jersey Shore in past years because it is loved by the young and old alike. Many families share this experience together because it takes little effort and only some bravery to soar high above the water. But the rewards are extreme. You can find parasailing up and down the beach resorts all along the Jersey Shore. From Cape May and Wildwood to Beach Haven and Barnaget Bay, tourist and locals are all enjoying the pleasure of soaring above the waters and taking in the views of the coast. Prices vary, but the average price ranges from $70 to $90 per session and the length of time you soar is usually about 15 minutes. For adventure and family fun, try parasailing. You’ll be glad you did it.

Viking Cooking School at Harrah’s Resort in Atlantic City New Jersey.

“It’s a store. It’s a school. It’s a playground for cooks” This is what the new Viking School located in one of Atlantic City’s hottest casino’s boost itself as being in their new ads. As you meander down Harrah’s walkway with it’s stores, restaurants, and “The Pool”, your eyes will catch the stainless steel ovens and prep tables of “Viking Cooking School”. This classroom for people who love to cook is enclosed by glass walls so passerby’s can get a glimpse of the work in progress going on.
With many classes offered, there is something for everyone. Most classes last three hours and include dining on your feast at the end with other classmates. Prices range from $75.00 to $119.00, which is a great deal considering you get to dine on your own creations and learn from a top chef how to prepare courses you will be able to share with family and friends.
When looking at the class selections, there were not many that I would not want to participate in, that is, if I liked to cook. But I am fortunate enough to have a wife that loves to cook, so I’m signing her up. Options include Steak, Roast, & Chop workshop, Italian alfresco dinner party, Date night, a dinner to remember, Fish Cookery, French Dinner Party, and many many more.
The Jersey Shore is lucky to have such an option come to Atlantic City. Offering more options than gambling andthe Casino life will bring more diverse people to the South Jersey Shore. The Viking Store is something to offer that no other casino or resort in Atlantic County has. It will bring in more business for Harrah’s and Atlantic City tourism. Ocean Drive Marathon: Cape May to Sea Isle City

Damp, Cold, Cloudy, and Windy. These are four words that best describe an average March Day at the Jersey Shore. Although we get some great days, the chances are you will have most of the words above to describe the Ocean Drive Marathon, which takes place at the end of March.

This annual event which brings out hundreds of participants and as many spectators who cheer for the athletes, starts in Cape May and ends in Sea Isle City. Participants can run the full marathon, which is 26 miles, 385 yards, or choose one of the smaller courses. For those who can’t put themselves through 26 miles, there is a 10-mile run, which starts in Cape May and ends in Wildwood, a 5K run in Sea Isle City, or a 1.5-mile run/walk, which takes place on the Promenade in Sea Isle.

In 2007, I gathered at the finishing line with the many participants and spectators and I could feel the energy and enthusiasm as everyone cheered the runners on. Although I was there for a reason, I enjoyed the camaraderie of those who participated and those who waited for loved ones to finish. The finishing time of the first, second, and third place entries in this marathon is usually between 2 hours 45 minutes and 3 hours, which is where they finished.

The Ocean Drive Marathon has many sponsors and donors who contribute to local charities in Cape May County. Among the beneficiaries of the event are the Volunteers in Medicine of Cape May County, The Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey, The Marine Mammal Stranding Center of Brigantine, and the High Schools in Cape May County.

If you are an athlete, or a person who likes to run, walk, or participate in a sporting event, the Ocean Drive Marathon is a great way to feel good about several causes. This annual event is one that will be enjoyed by all.
