Victorian Week in Cape May, New Jersey


Autumn is here. The leaves are starting to change colors and the temperature is getting cooler every day. Even though the hazy hot summer days are gone at the shore, the weather is still in the seventies during the day and cooler sixties at night. The crowds have left and the atmosphere is perfect.

October is a great month to visit historic Cape May at the southernmost point of New Jersey. Traditionally held on the first week in October, Victorian week in Cape May offers events that bring in tourists from around the world.

Events ranging from a Chef’s Dine-Around to House Tours to Fashion Shows to Beer Tasting are just a few of the events that you can experience while visiting one of the most popular tourist attraction in the United States. For those who are not familiar with Cape May, New Jersey, it is located at mile zero of the Garden State Parkway and is the Southernmost point in New Jersey.

Cape May offers wonderful beaches, magnificent Victorian architecture, four-star restaurants, and the perfect setting for a visit in October. Along with all of the normal amenities this quaint city offers, this week long event brings everything associated with Cape May together and offers unique seminars and tours that everyone interested can enjoy.

The self-guided tour of Cape May’s Victorian houses allows you to wonder at your own pace and discover the architectural riches and design styles of the owners. You will become educated on the history of Cape May while touring buildings that have been around for many, many years.

For those who enjoy eating, (and who doesn’t), the Chef’s Dine-Around offer a five course meal, each course being served at one of Cape May’s finest restaurants. After you enjoy each course, a trolley shuttle will provide you transportation to your next location.

Cape May Convention Hall becomes a Memory Lane featuring costumes from the Victorian Era as volunteers show off their outfits before a pane of judges, hoping to be crowned Cape May’s “Victorian Idol”. This spin off of American Idol should be fun for all.

Other events during Victorian Week include Murder Mystery Dinners, Brass Band Concerts, and a Beer Tasting seminar. There is fun for everyone and everyone’s taste will be satisfied at the Cape May Victorian Week in October!!!
