A Week Long Itinerary In Cape May (without children)

Below, we’ve put together what we feel is an ideal one week vacation in Cape May.

Saturday: Check in, unpack, and head towards the beach. Spend a leisurely afternoon on the beach relaxing and enjoying the sun. After a few hours of beach time, head back to your accommodations, get a shower, and ready for an evening of dining in a city that has eating establishments that will suit everyone’s needs.

Sunday: Get up early and take a stroll. You can either walk on the beach, or stroll around town and take in all of the Victorian sights. The amazing architecture and gardening can be found on almost any street in the City limits. Find a small café or coffee shop; get your favorite drink and a pastry, bagel, or doughnut. Sit and watch the people as they quietly stroll by.

After breakfast and a walk, get yourself ready for the beach for the day. Knowing that you will want to eat out at one of many fine dining establishments, you may want to make reservations at any of the five star restaurants.

Enjoy the sun and fun all afternoon. Relax and read a book, play in the water, or take a nap while taking in the sun. Afterwards, get ready for your dining experience for the evening. Most food establishments are within walking distance, so you can enjoy a walk to your favorite restaurant. Enjoy a fabulous meal and find a bar or tavern to listen to some good music while you feel satisfied from a great meal.

Monday: Today you may want to play a round of golf, or take a ride up route 9 to one of hundreds of antique and specialty shops. If you enjoy golfing, there are over one hundred courses in Cape May and Atlantic Counties to choose from. While driving up route 9, you will also want to stop at the Cape May Zoo in Cape May Court House. Only fifteen minutes from Cape May, this free zoo offers a great area to walk and enjoy an hour or two of admiring the animals in their natural habitats. Although the zoo is free, visitors are encouraged to leave a donation to help keep the zoo maintained.

In the evening, you may want to take a horse and carriage ride around town, or a trolley tour. Both tours offer the history of Cape May and point out the highlights of the town. While touring, you may see something of interest that you will want to visit during your stay.
Get up early and relax while drinking coffee or your favorite drink while you plan your day. Today you may want to explore by leaving the southernmost city in New Jersey and heading up the Garden State Parkway. Only an hour away is Atlantic City, which you can spend a whole day visiting. When you get to A.C., you will want to visit the casinos, visit the many shopping destinations that this town has to offer, and eat at one of the many new restaurants this Mega City has. You should plan on spending the whole day and even evening in Atlantic City and all it has to offer.

Tuesday: Since you were busy out of town yesterday, today will be a day to relax on the beach and head to Sunset Beach to watch a stunning sunset. Enjoy the sun and fun in the morning, and head towards the Cape May Wharf for a leisurely lunch at the Lobster House. Everyone who visits Cape May should experience the Lobster House. This rustic restaurant and dock offers the most casual dining of delicious seafood, which is priced very reasonably, or you can opt for a great lunch in the fine dining restaurant. For those who want to experience the wharf at it’s best, you can order from the fish market, the raw bar, or eat on the Schooner boat. Old cable reels act as a table, and everything you order is self-order and pick up. Don’t forget to try the crab bisque. It is fabulous.

After a great lunch, you may want to take a ride to Cape May Point and visit the Lighthouse and walk around this quiet point. The lighthouse gives you a great view from the tower, and you can learn about nature that is found in this wonderful town.

Tuesday evening should be spent at Sunset Beach where you can watch one of the most brilliant sunsets around. This area is also known for its “Cape May Diamonds”, which is quartz that has traveled from the top of the Delaware River and then is tumbled by the shipwrecked sunken ship “Atlantus”.

Wednesday: Today you may want to go on a fishing or Dolphin watching excursion. For the fishing enthusiast, you can go out on a chartered boat where the rods and reels, along with bait are supplied. If fishing is not your thing, you can take a long boat ride out into the ocean and spot dolphin swimming and playing around. These excursions usually last a half-day, so once you return, you can spend the afternoon on the beach or shopping in town at one of the many unique shops Cape May has to offer.

This evening you may want to eat at another of the many restaurants. There are so many to choose from, you should ask around to see which one’s are talked about more than others.

Thursday: Get up early and relax while drinking coffee or your favorite drink while you plan your day. Today you may want to explore by leaving the southernmost city in New Jersey and heading up the Garden State Parkway. Only an hour away is Atlantic City, which you can spend a whole day visiting. You should plan on spending the whole day and even evening in Atlantic City and all it has to offer.

Friday: Today you will want to relax at the beach, and reflect on what a great week you have had. Stay for the fun and sun until you feel rejuvenated, and then head into town for one last fantastic evening in this town that takes you back to the early Twentieth Century with all it has to offer.

Saturday: You pack, and leave Cape May with fantastic memories, and a desire to come back again and again. You feel good about your choice of vacations and you start to plan your next trip to the Jersey shore.
