Jersey-Atlantic Wind Farm In Atlantic City

The Jersey-Atlantic Wind Farm is located in Atlantic City, NJ and is built on the grounds of a wastewater treatment facility owned by the Atlantic County Utilities Authority. The wind farm can be seen by the 30 million annual visitors from the Atlantic City Expressway, and also route 30.

This Wind Farm is sited at an ideal location. The wind speeds are well suited for wind energy generation, and no new land had to be developed to build it. The wind turbines are constructed on land already in use by the ACUA wastewater treatment facility and the ACUA will purchase the wind energy, being generated on site, to power the facility. This agreement helped to offset the enormous initial investment that was required to build this wind farm.

There are five 1.5 megawatt turbines at this location that were manufactured by and purchased from General Electric. In the wind energy industry, GE is quickly establishing itself as a leader in wind turbine manufacturing.

Each turbine has a 255-foot tall tower. At the top of the tower are three evenly spaced rotating blades. In total, from ground to the tip of an upright blade, a wind turbine reaches a height of 397 feet, which is about 100 feet taller than the Statue of Liberty.

The Jersey-Atlantic wind farm is the first wind farm in New Jersey and the first coastal wind farm in the country. This plant will generate enough energy to power more than 2,500 homes every year. Enrolling in the New Jersey Clean Power Choice Program through Jersey Atlantic Wind, will allow you to help conserve energy that omits gasses in the air and contributes to global warming. For as little as $5.50 extra per month, your participation helps make it possible to always have clean, locally generated wind energy for New Jersey.

Tours of this wind farm are available. To find out more about the wind farm you can contact someone at 610-254-9800.
