The Atlantic City Air Show

Every year for the past several years, Atlantic City has offered tourist, locals, and anyone willing to come to the Jersey Shore a spectacular event that fascinates the young and old. The Atlantic City Airshow, which is normally held the second Wednesday in August, offers a free, (yes I said free), flying event that will please all. Approximately 400,000 to 500,000 locals, tourists, and anyone in the South Jersey Shore area flock to the Atlantic City boardwalk and beach to get a close view of the soaring wonders.

The air show offers several events that cover the span of four to five hours of enjoyment. Beach chairs and umbrellas are lined up and down the sandy beach, while many choose to sit and watch from the boardwalk, hotels, restaurants and bars. The focus is on the boardwalk convention center where bombers, nighthawks, F 15’s, Hornets, and the Thunderbirds, fly by and cross over while spectators oooh and ahh there way through the day.

During the day, you could witness a Coastguard rescue mission, the Army skydivers, Aerobatics, and other dazzling shows. The Stealth Bomber can be the highlight for both the young and old. The Thunderbirds or Blue Angels, (or both), normally highlight the event with their turns, twists, and formations that look like they are only inches apart.

Parking for this event is tough and anyone wanting to attend is recommended an early arrival. My family and I arrived about two hours prior to the start of this day long event and we are very pleased we came early. The parking lots were not full and we found a casino that offered parking for only $5.00 for the day. Friends of ours who arrived about an hour later found themselves paying $35.00 for parking. Supply and Demand. The day was fun filled and we had an age range from eight to fifty one and everyone had a great day. The children watched with wide eyes and in between shows they may have taken a dip in the ocean to fill in the time gaps.

All should see the Atlantic City Airshow. A great event that involves minimal cost and offers a time that will be remembered forever. My hat goes off to Atlantic City and their annual event that offers something back to all.
