Asbury Park, with its new revitalization has become a place for the young and old to visit for shopping and eating. On a Saturday evening, with the town starting to come to life, my wife and I wondered downtown and were looking for a light dinner. We came across “Old Man Rafferty’s” and saw that evening though it was only about 5:15, this place was almost filled to capacity. So we decided that it must be a great place for the clientele it was already accommodating.

For those of you who have not been to Asbury Park in recent days, months, or years, a revival transformation has been occurring before your very eyes. With it has evolved a new era of trendy restaurants and bars. One I found particularly interesting was McLoone’s Asbury Grille. Located on the North end of the boardwalk, this indoor/outdoor restaurant and bar has the perfect setting for a great meal and a fabulous view of the ocean.

If you have not been to Asbury Park in the past month or year, you have to come see what this once dilapidated, run down city has done to start a new birth of revitalization to this beach resort town. What was once a family orientated New Jersey ocean resort, had become a run down, drug infested corrupt town, and is now digging its way out of the sewer and starting a revitalization that is welcome from near and far.

If there’s one town at the Jersey Shore that boasts gorgeous scenery and history, it’s got to be Asbury Park. This Monmouth County city has gone through plenty of ups and downs during its history, and is now going through a revitalization. Asbury Park, New Jersey, got its start in 1871 when James A. Bradley, a New York manufacturer, bought an uninhabited 500-acre tract of woodland for $90,000. In poor health, Bradley sought refuge and peace in the town. After a short stay in Asbury Park and with his health restored, Bradley threw all his energies into building a seashore resort that would be “second to none.” The city was named in honor of Bishop Francis Asbury and Asbury Park was incorporated as a City on March 25, 1897.
