The Jersey Shore and Hurricanes
Severe storms usually do not hit the Jersey Shore, which is why this area is an ideal location to own a property. Since record keeping began in 1886, the only hurricane to make direct landfall in New Jersey occurred on September 16, 1903, and its sustained winds were only three miles per hour more than the 74 mph minimum to be classified as a hurricane.
The Mid-Atlantic, Southeastern and Gulf of Mexico portion of the United States experienced 1,092 tropical storms from 1886 to 2006, but only 39 passed within 75 nautical miles of Atlantic City, and only 13 of those had sustained hurricane force winds. The distance from Atlantic City is important because hurricane force winds can be expected within 75 nautical miles of the center of a hurricane.
An Ocean Grove, NJ Shore Vacation
As an early Christmas gift to my wife this year, I decided to make reservations and take her away for a weekend and visit New York City. After spending several hours looking for a place to stay in Manhattan, and realizing it was going to cost around $350.00 per night, I started looking along the Jersey Shore. The Internet had an advertisement for a town on the shore called Ocean Grove, and there was a hotel that looked like a Victorian property that I’m use to seeing in Cape May.
Shopping in Atlantic City
A few years ago, Atlantic City realized that it had to offer more than the excitement of the casino’s and the surf from the ocean to lure visitors in for a longer stay. The city had a master plan that included dining and shopping for the ordinary and the elite.
Ocean City New Jersey: A Dry Town
Ocean City, located only twenty-five miles north of the Southern point of New Jersey is a “Family” town that invites vacationers from all over the country. This town, which is proud to be a “Dry” town, keeps the party atmosphere to a minimum. The law which makes Ocean City a town that does not sell alcohol has come up for a vote several times, but every time it stays the same.
Golfing at the South Jersey Shore
Over the past several years, golf courses in Cape May and Atlantic County have been developed, making golfing in South Jersey one of many new tourist attractions in the area. Many courses have spent millions of dollars creating experiences for the beginner and experts alike. With many courses in Cape May and Atlantic Counties, South Jersey has been called the “Myrtle Beach” of the North.
